I want to hear your Adderall stories
Question:
I would like to hear your Adderall stories. I am currently trying to evaluate its real impact on culture. Please be as articulate and to the point as possible. I would also ask that I have permission to quote you in the future if possible. Thanks, http://religiondrugspolitics.blogspot.com/

I checked out your blog, what there is of it so far. I rather enjoyed it. Like this quote: "Should we really be so worried? I mean, what’s the risk here? Aside from having a generation of people who want to study really hard, I don’t think there is much." So here is my story about Adderal. Our younger daughter, now ten, started taking it about two and a half years ago. She went from being a kid who had constant struggles with teachers and difficulty with peers, who was in trouble and frustrated and unhappy, to a kid who is still a handful and a half, but now has friends, makes adults laugh, and can be reasoned out of her blind alleys of stubbornness. She relaxed. She smiled more. It really was a minor miracle. Thanks for helping me remember what a good thing it was. :-)

It gave me a headache. Why just Adderall? Does it have a worse rep than Ritalin? –Patti

Well I am 42 and I was on it for about 1.5 years until about 6 months ago. In my youth I was an avergae teen/ 20 year old ( I was not diagnosed with ADHD until I was 39.5). I had experimented with some drugs including pot, cocaine, and blotter. I have never been an abusive type, meaning I always knew when to say when and when to say no thanks. I am saying this because when I first got on Adderall it felt in many ways like cocaine was for me. Let me qualify that with this. Cocaine was good for me in that I could focus and had the energy I needed to do the things I wanted, I could also fall asleep on it so it was a nice thing for me. In my first week or two on Adderall a lot of feelings came back to me that I had not had for years. I felt like a kid again, I really wanted to do the things I had been missing, excercise, riding a bike, playing my guitar for four hours at a time. There were a couple of times that I felt like partying and that was an eye opener for me. That is when I recognized the feelings I was having and I decided I needed to keep this in my strict awareness so I knew I was not going to abuse it. I never abused it while I was on it. I would still be using it if I could take Welbutrin with it. Not sure why I can’t but that is what the doctor said so… I was on Prozac with Adderall and I was having erection issues with the Prozac. While there are things like Viagra I knew my issue was the Prozac so why compound it with another? I switched to Straterra when I saw the commercials and I knew I could get on Welbutrin with that. There was about a two week point when I was not on anything so the meds could metabolize completely before starting the new meds. Straterra is nice for focusing like studying but there is no stimulant factor and you get tired easily. So I haven’t determined what to do about the energy level yet. I don’t drink coffee or take any socialization drugs. I have heard about using St John Wart or Ginko tea but I haven’t tried that yet. I hope this is good for your reports. Remember I only switched due to another indirectly related decision. Otherwise I would still be using it.
