My First Post-Op PSA Blood Draw Tomorrow
Question:
Good luck on the test Ron. I’d suggest you study for it you’ll probably ace it with no preparation at all. I.P. suggested it’s early for a meaningful reading. If you do see a bit of PSA, ask your doctor about it. It’s conceivable to me that you might still have tiny amounts of PSA in the bloodstream from before the surgery. Alan – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I got suspicious when morning rounds groups included as many people carrying mops as stethoscopes. Note I said, "suspicious", not "concerned". ;-) Don’t be alrmed is your PSA is still non-zero; it’s early for a meaningful reading. I.P. I never WAS worried about modesty but you guys tell the new folks not to be bothered by everyone looking at their private parts. Heck…I was showing them to the ladies cleaning the hospital room after a while. (It’s a JOKE) :-)
Response:
RonB, I used the shots 3-4 times a week starting day 13 with excellent results. They don’t require any nerve recovery. I tried the pills every few days, then at 2.5 months saw an article indicating that the pills promote recovery, so I started using them on the non-shot nights. I was able to have intercourse (badly) with the pills at 5.5 months, and with nothing at 6.5 months. Now at 14 months I have about 75% of my erectile ability back, anf I’m close to 100% with middle dose of any of the pills. I still like the shots too. Gauge 31 needles 5mm long hardly hurt at all.Orgasm started out pretty good, and got better as my natural erection started coming back. Now its better than pre-op because it lasts longer, but does take more stimulation than before. I think frequent erections, even drug produced ones are a help. Plus the sex was a giant psychological boost. The only problem with resuming intercourse early was the incontinence. Fortunatly, my wife was/is a real friend. Nothing works for everybody, but I think this regimen helped me. Good luck. Steve U

Jeez: "Don’t be alarmed if your PSA is still non-zero". I.P. Bad fingers. BAD fingers! – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Don’t be alrmed is your PSA is still non-zero

Thanks Len for your advice. Dr. Catalona favors Cialis but cautions that it can cause muscle cramps. (That might have been what you experienced). I know about the blue haze of Viagra (always thought it was psychedelic…until NOW
but we’ll see what happens. Thanks, Ron B.

You taught me so much and advised me of so many things that they are endless. I never WAS worried about modesty but you guys tell the new folks not to be bothered by everyone looking at their private parts. Heck…I was showing them to the ladies cleaning the hospital room after a while. (It’s a JOKE) :-) My surgery was March 21st and I’m having the first PSA test tomorrow. I was T1c, Gleason 3+4 before going in…and my pathology wa reduced to Gleason 3+3, clear margins and lymph nodes. I had some clotting probs that kept me in the hospital for 4 extra days but I feel pretty good now. I leak and squirt upon getting up and sitting down and sometimes a squirt while standing in line at the grocery store. I use about 6 Depends or pads a day (I put a pad in the depends and change IT…instead of the entire diaper) I hope I’m getting better but maybe I’m just more accepting. Anyway…the nurse will leave a package of Cialis, Viagra etc. when I go tomorrow to see which of those "agree with me."
The chances are that neither will have an effect this early, so don’t be disappointed if nothing happens. It is usually a good idea to try these drugs periodically to see if there is anything new. Also, some doctors think you should be using such a drug regularly to encourage the return of erections. (That could get very expensive!) Ask Dr. Catalona what he thinks about it. Not produces an erection (I wish) but doesn’t make me sick or give me cramps. (Cialis)
Some men experience some side effects when first taking these drugs, but they often disappear with repeated use. Cialis is longer lasting, but I don’t know if any side effects are. I have had 2 orgasms from lubed stimulation and visual aids. They were not the same as before…but at least it was something. No erection…not even a little…just from touching and rubbing gently. hope this is a good sign as my doc feels that he spared the nerves well.
His statistics for success are extremely high, particularly in relatively younger men like you. My question: How do you think that I should use the pills? Take one…try for an orgasm, and then see what’s what?
The pills have no effect on sexual desire or intensity of orgasm; they are not aphrodisiacs. They simply allow you to have an erection when you are already aroused. But under the circumstances, it may be difficult to concentrate on that. If you do manage an erection, you can decide what to do with it, but the rest will not have anything to do with the drug. The the next day…another type?
The effects of Viagra should be gone by the next day. You are supposed to wait 24 hours before using it again. Cialis can last for several days. Ask your doctor, but probably you should wait a few days in between. With Viagra, originally I saw the famous blue haze and I got a slight headache, but today I have no side effects. I tried Cialis, using some samples my doctor gave me, and I didn’t notice any profound side effects, but I did once experience some minor leg pain, which might have arisien from something else. For some of us, it is not clear whether the drug is actually doing the work. It may be acting as a placebo, increasing our confidence, so the normal processes can work. Fear of not being able to produce an erection can ensure you won’t have one. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Thanks again for your help and good health to all. Ron B. Chicago
